Dormitory Rules and Regulation
Announcement On Dormitory Regulations 2006
We wish to inform student residents that a new Dormitory Regulations, 2006, has been approved by the Council of Shinawatra University recently. The principal contents consist of the following.
Policy and Administration
- Dormitory is a place to learn and develop oneself' skill and character, which will hopefully lead to the quality and abilities aimed by the University.
- The management structure of the Dormitory consists of 3 committees and group of counselors, as follows:
- Dormitory Management Committee
- Dormitory Division
- Dormitory Student Committee
- The Dormitory Management Committee which is appointed by the University, functions as advisor to the Dorm Manager in general management issues. The works generally cover matters relating to the Dormitory operation.
- The Manager of the Dormitory shall look after all the administrative and household work, with support from the Dormitory Student Advisor and the Dormitory Management Committee.
- A Dormitory Student Committee, appointed by the Dormitory Management Committee, is the official representative of the Dormitory students, with duties as follow.
- To plan and implement activities relating to the students in the Dormitory in the projects approved by the Dormitory management.
- To represent students in the Dormitory and make suggestions to the management in matters relating to activities, living conditions and welfare.
- To assist the Dormitory management in making the place clean and tidy, suitable for living and learning purposes.
Room Reservation and Conditions of Stay
- Student who wishes to stay in the Dormitory shall apply to the Dormitory Office, following the process announced, at least 2 weeks before the end of semester. The successful applicants, together with the allocated room number, will be announced within 2 weeks before the new semester starts. New students will come under different arrangement.
- The assigned room cannot be changed without the management's approval. Once student has obtained his room number, he must check in within the prescribed period, otherwise, the room may be given to the other.
- The application to stay in the Dormitory may come under different schemes as follows: 1) To stay only one semester or 2) To stay for the whole academic year (may include or exclude summer semester). The room rate including other fees and method of payment can be found in other announcements.
- Student shall pay the rental fee and expenses before checking-in the Dormitory. The student shall also be required to pay the deposit for the borrowed room keys, including the review of all the furniture and appliance items to make sure all the listed items are in good conditions.
- Student cannot change room without permission by the Dormitory Office.
- Student shall use furnitures and appliances provided in the room, and has to sign an acceptance form. If the student moves or alters the furniture settings which lead to damage or loss, the student shall have to pay a fine or the cost of damage or loss. Student is hence required to check the conditions of all furnitures and appliances in his room. If there is any damage, the student shall have to notify the Dormitory Office within 7 days after obtaining the room's key. If not, the student shall be liable to the cost of damage or replacement.
- Student who wishes to move out of the Dormitory before the end of semester, shall have to notify the Dormitory Office at least 7 days in advance for checking out protocols.
- Student shall check out of the room within 2 days after the end of semester. If the student wishes to stay on during vacation, he has to notify in writing to the Dormitory Manager within 7 days before the end of the semester. If permission is granted, the student shall have to pay the daily or monthly rate fee.
- If student wishes to stay in the Dormitory during vacation, he is required to specify the dates of staying clearly. By leaving his belongings inside the room, without giving clear intention, the room owner is liable to be charged full fee.
- Student who is permitted to stay in the Dormitory during regular semesters or summer semester, is required to contact the Dormitory Office within the period specified by the Dormitory Office. Otherwise, the room may be allocated to the others.
- Persons who stay in student's room without permission from the Dormitory Management, shall be fined at the rate determined by the University.
- Persons from outside who wish to meet the student, are required to wait and do the business in the Dormitory lobby.
Rules and Regulations
- Student must observe rules, regulations and instructions of the University and Dormitory. Advices from the Dormitory management and Dormitory advisors should also be followed.
- Student should be polite, orderly and well behaved. Student who commits a serious misconduct such as immoral behavior, sexual misconduct, theft, drug addiction or sales of drugs, shall have the contract terminated without refunding the rental fee. Furthermore, disciplinary actions may also be taken according to the University regulations and Laws, depending on the degree of the commitment.
- Student is not allowed to cook food inside the room or elsewhere except in the kitchen provided.
- Male student shall not enter the restricted area of the female Dormitory and vice versa. The student who violates this clause shall be subject to disciplinary measures, which include the termination of stay in the Dormitory.
- Student who wishes to hold or organize any activities in the Dormitory must seek to obtain permission from Dormitory management in advance.
- Student should take care of Dormitory properties. If any of the properties is damaged, student should notify the Dormitory Office as soon as possible. Student should also use electricity and water rationally, such as turning off the lights, air-conditioner and water tap every time before leaving the room.
- Student is strictly prohibited to smoke or drink alcohol in the Dormitory.
- Student is not permitted to keep pets in the room except small aquarium. Permission from the Dormitory management and roommates are required in priori
- Student is strictly prohibited to quarrel or enter into a fight with others in the Dormitory.
- Student should not leave valuables or cash in his room and should look after other personal properties as well. In case of any loss of property, the University shall not be responsible.
- At the end of each semester, or if the student is no longer a student of Shinawatra University, shall have to move out of the room within the period as stated by the Dormitory announcement or guideline. In case of moving out during semester period, refund of the room fee is not possible.
Security and Peace
- Student is strictly prohibited from using other student' ID card to gain access to other people's room.
- Student shall not engage in activities that cause a lot of noises, which disturb the others.
- Student is required to be in the Dormitory before 11.00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. For Saturdays ,Sundays and public holidays, the time limit is midnight . Under special circumstances, student may make a request to the Dormitory Management for an extension of the time limit. The student who violates this clause, he will be put on a list. If his name appears 3 times, he shall be cautioned and his parents be informed of the offence. In the case of frequent offender, the student concerned will be subject to disciplinary actions.
- In certain cases, which are not related to University-organized activities, student may be allowed to stay overnight outside the Dormitory provided that the Dormitory Management or Advisor gives approval. In such cases, the student has to look after himself and be responsible for any problems that may happen outside the University.
- Student is forbidden to use the Dormitory fire escape under normal circumstances.
- Student is prohibited to bring in any inflammable materials or dangerous chemical substance into his room, e.g. liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), fireworks including poisonous substance.
- Student is not allowed to use certain types of electrical appliances, the details of which may be obtained from the Dormitory Office.
Tidiness and Property Maintenance
- Student shall look after all the furnitures and appliances. If anything is lost, damaged, or out of order, student should report the case to the Dormitory Office the soonest. The cost of repair or replacement will come under the student's responsibility if the damage or loss is due to carelessness or intention.
- Student should assist by keeping the room tidy, including the surrounding area of the Dormitory at all time.
- Student is prohibited to remove, nail ,tighten screw fasteners, on furnitures and walls, including spraying/printing, and other similar tampering. Any damage resulting from the above acts will be the student's responsibility.
Measures against the Violators
- The student who violates the above rules and regulations may be fined and taken disciplinary measures.
